COMPANY HISTORY Back in 1976, we started Brigade Quartermasters, Ltd. on our family farm in Powder Springs, Georgia to sell one product; the British-made Woolly
Pully® patched military sweater. From this humble beginning, we eventually sold this now famous sweater to the U.S. Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and millions of others. We still sell it today.
People frequently ask us how we came by our name Brigade Quartermasters. We created a name that to us, reflected British quality and a military heritage. Literally, Brigade means "a tactical and administrative unit composed of a headquarters, one or more units of infantry or armor, and supporting units". The term Quartermaster means "an officer who provides clothing and subsistence for a body of troops." And, that's how we see ourselves... a unit designed to provide our customers with the highest quality clothing and gear. Along with the best service available.
The symbolic Japanese "Medieval Archer" logo was originally designed for us by Blackie Collins, an internationally known knife designer. The Archer was the provider and protector for the family. The logo represents the mission of our company, providing the "Basics for Life" - Food, Shelter, Water and Strength.
While supplying the world's finest military sweater, we found there was a need and a desire from our military and outdoor customers for unique products they could not find on or off military bases. We found many sought after items and in 1979, began offering them in magazine advertisements and a simple catalog. If you have been a Brigade customer for years, as many of our customers have, you know that we started off modestly and learned as we went…. you've even seen the owners and our employees modeling products in the catalog.
By 1981, our business needed larger quarters and a retail store, so we moved to a 10,000 square foot building off the Marietta Town Square. Thanks to the support from our many customers, we outgrew that little building (now site of the Cobb County Library) and had to relocate again to a larger facility.
Today, our business
is in a 51,000 square foot building in the City of Kennesaw; famous for the local ordinance where every citizen must own a firearm and for the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. From our HQ, we sell around the world to individuals, government agencies, military units, corporations, wholesale dealers, and visitors to our retail store. We mail over 2,000,000 catalogs and keep nearly 90 employees busy assisting our customers with over $20 million in purchases each year. Although we have grown in sales, our goal is to always provide our customers with friendly personalized service…. a family approach to business that makes folks feel comfortable doing business with us.
